On 6th – 7th November 2019, Kolej Laila Taib’s appointed External Examiner, Prof. Ir. Dato’ Dr. Hassan bin Basri visited KLT and had assessed on the programme of diploma in civil engineering during his visit.

As stated clearly in the external examiner’s report, the programme has still been accredited by MQA following annual monitoring audit visit by Prof., hence it is evident that the programme is consistently well-run, whereby the assessment and evaluation of the programme is primarily based on the governing MQA Programme Standards for Engineering and Engineering Technology.

During the visit, Prof. had sessions with different batches of civil engineering students. With the feedback from students and observation of courses’ files, he recommended that in line with international standards, diploma level programmes should be of more on the applied and less on the theory aspects, even though KLT’s diploma programme in civil engineering has offered a series of practical curriculums along the two years and nine months of study. Applied skills are being in the focus noticeably in recent years, it is believed that all of them are due to the global focus on the revolutionized industry – Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Besides, Prof. did have a great meeting with the civil engineering department’s lecturers. He recommended that lecturers should be encouraged to acquire industry experience as the industry experience from the lecturers does assist ensuring the eventual graduates to have good industry-relevant learning experience.

KLT’s civil engineering department has a great pleasure to have honorable Prof. as the external examiner. To uphold the quality assurance and continuous quality improvement of KLT’s diploma programmes, every department has its own reputational external examiner and industrial advisor for the programmes’ assessment and evaluation.
