QS Educational talk on Value Management by Sr Dr. Zuhaili

On 19th November 2019, around 50 Quantity Surveying (QS) students from Kolej Laila Taib (KLT) attended an educational talk delivered by Surveyor Dr. Zuhaili, a senior lecturer from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor. The objective of the talk is to increase the students’ exposure on the using of Value Management (VM) in a construction project.

According to Dr Zuhaili, VM is a systematic method which aims to deliver better value of money project to the client investment. Dr Zuhaili mentioned that the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department mandates that for every construction project valued at more than RM 50 million, a VM study is required to be undertaken. This shows the growing importance for the use and development of VM in the Malaysian construction industry, which can also be seen as an opportunities for QS profession to remodel their traditional service and develop new leading-edge skills.

Quantity Surveying is a fast growing field of study in Malaysia and is ranked amongst the highest in terms of employability within the Malaysian construction industry. The college’s Diploma in Quantity Surveying is a 2 years 9 months programme which is accredited and recognised by the, Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia, Ministry of Higher Education and Malaysian Qualifications Agency. The programme prepares students with a wide range of quantifying and managerial skills, construction technologies, economics and legal aspects of construction contract. Upon completion of Diploma in Quantity Surveying, graduates can opt to start working or continue on with a Quantity Surveying Degree in local or overseas universities.
