On 18 October, the Department of Quantity Surveying and Department of Civil Engineering in Kolej Laila Taib (KLT) arranged a one-day “Safety and Health Induction Course for Construction Workers” for students to attend. The talk was participated by 12 Quantity Surveying students and 7 Civil Engineering students. Mr Kang Chia Yang, a qualified trainer from Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia was invited to the college to conduct the one-day safety training class to students. Upon completion of the training, students will be issued a construction personnel registration card known as the CIDB green card. Students who will be undergoing industrial training next year are required to apply for this green card while working at construction sites.

In KLT, the three-month industrial training has been part of the programme in Diploma of Civil Engineering and Diploma of Quantity Surveying program. The main objective of the industrial training is to expose students to various aspects of industrial training practices and ethics as well as to allow students to integrate theory with practices. Developing strong links with industry in the current economic climate has always been the priority concerns of KLT in order to produce potential workforce with the academic knowledge and flexibility that can meet the industry demand.

KLT is the first private higher educational institution to achieve recognition from Malaysian Qualifications Agency (previously known as Lembaga Akreditasi Negara), Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam, Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia, Institution of Surveyors Malaysia, Chartered Institution of Builders and Institution of Engineers Malaysia. KLT offers six diploma programmes, which are accounting, architecture, civil engineering, quantity surveying, business management and electrical & electronic Engineering.
