KLT officially appointed Ir. Sia How Teck as Industrial Advisor for CE department

Kolej Laila Taib (KLT) has officially appointed Ir. Sia How Teck, the director of S H T Konsultant and the member of APEC and EMF International Professional Engineer Register, as the industrial advisor of the Civil Engineering (CE) department. KLT has always been committed in delivering quality learning experience to our students. To ensure our students have the right skills that meet the expectations of their future employers, KLT has appointed Ir. Sia as an industrial advisor to enhance students’ industry exposure as well as promote engagement via learning.

In his role as the industrial advisor, Ir. Sia will impart his extensive industrial knowledge and experience to the CE students. During his visit on 25th September 2019, he was first having a meeting up with all the CE lecturers to understand more on the progress of CE department in KLT. From the subjects offered by CE programme, Ir. Sia advised that more industrial activities can be added in (as assessments) to the syllabuses of some subjects, whereby students can enhance their exposure to industrial experiences of a project from the beginning stage until the completion of works. After the meeting, Ir. Sia took a tour to CE labs for equipment’s improvement inspection.

Ir. Sia then conducted a talk entitled “A career in Civil Engineering” for all the CE students. During the talk, he emphasized on the important roles played by CE in the engineering industry. Ir. Sia also addressed that there are higher demands from the industries on the standard and competencies of CE graduates. Hence, he encouraged the students to fully equip themselves with both hard and soft skills in their learning. Ir. Sia ended the talk with emphasizing on the attitude of learning of students, which is the key of CE graduates’ success.

The college will continue to work closely with the engineering industry to ensure students gain the knowledge and competencies required at the 21st century workplace. We believe that collaboration with industries will allow undergraduates to be exposed to real case studies and latest industry insight as well as enabling the college to constantly update our syllabus to meet the industry demand.
