Kolej Laila Taib (KLT) has always been committed in delivering quality learning experience to our students. To ensure our students have the right skills that meet the expectations of their future employers, KLT has officially appointed Sr Wong Chii Nguong, the director of ELP Quantity Surveyors (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd as the industrial advisor of the Quantity Surveying (QS) department.

In his role as the industrial advisor, Sr Wong will impart his extensive industrial knowledge and experience to the QS students in order to enhance their industry exposure as well promote engagement via learning. During his visit on 9th July 2019, Sr Wong conducted a talk entitled “ Is Quantity Surveying still relevant?” for all the QS students. During the talk, he emphasized on the important roles played by QS in the construction industry from the beginning stage until the completion of works. He mentioned that QS should be appointed at the design stage so as to provide cost advice and ensure that the architect’s design will fit the client’s budget. Sr Wong also addressed that there has been increasing concern on the quality of QS graduates joining the profession. There are higher demands from employers on the standard and competencies of QS graduates. Hence, he encouraged the students to fully equip themselves with both hard and soft skills in their learning.

The college will continue to work closely with the industry to ensure students gain the knowledge and competencies required at the 21st century workplace. We believe that collaboration with industries will allow undergraduates to be exposed to real case studies and latest industry insight as well as enabling the college to constantly update the syllabus to meet industry demand.
