Collaboration between KLT and Cytron Technologies

Kolej Laila Taib (KLT) collaborated with Cytron Technologies, a Penang-based tech company, to conduct robotics and coding training for its students and also teachers from nearby schools. This outreach campaign is a joint effort between Cytron and KLT in support of the national #mydigitalmaker movement which aims to transform Malaysian youth from digital users to producers in the digital economy.

On 17th May 2019, twenty-six KLT students attended a 3-hour introductory workshop conducted by trainers from Cytron Technologies. During the workshop, they gained hands-on experience learning to program rero:micro robot using Microsoft Makecode Editor.

rero:micro robot, designed and manufactured by Cytron Technologies, is an affordable educational robot that is especially designed to encourage beginners to learn coding in a fun and easy manner. It comes with a game track and a 10-lesson booklet with step-by-step guide, fun facts and coding challenges.

The following day, KLT hosted 22 schools teachers from around Sibu, Sarikei, Mukah and even Kapit for RACā€™19 Competition Briefing and Workshop for Teachers. RAC, which stands for RERO Annual Championship,Ā  is a robotics and coding competition run by Cytron Technologies in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). Besides attending this workshop, the teachers are further equipped with modules and resources to train their students. RACā€™19 Sarawak state level competition is scheduled to take place on 18th July 2019, followed by national level in September and international level in November.

With this collaboration, KLT hopes to encourage more students to pursue further education in STEM related fields.
